ICCONS Anchoring Solution Secures New Slipway Rails at the Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia

Approximately 40 metres of slipway rail was recently installed and replaced at the Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia in North Haven.

Operating in a highly corrosive marine environment and supporting substantial vessel loads, the new slipway rails required a heavy-duty anchoring solution that could provide strength, durability and confidence throughout the installation.

ICCONS worked closely with the project team from the initial product specification through to installation and on-site proof load testing.


The Project Challenge

Slipway rails are continuously exposed to saltwater, moisture and demanding operational loads as vessels are moved in and out of the water.

For this project, the fastening system needed to:

  • Secure approximately 40 metres of replacement slipway rail
  • Perform under heavy operational loads
  • Withstand harsh and corrosive marine conditions
  • Provide sufficient anchoring depth into the existing concrete
  • Be installed and tested in accordance with the specified requirements

With reliability essential to the completed structure, selecting the right chemical anchoring system and installation method was critical.

The ICCONS Solution

Following consultation with the ICCONS Engineering Team, a chemical anchoring solution using ICCONS BIS-PE Pure Epoxy GEN3 and M24 Stainless Steel Chisel Point Studs was specified.

A total of 400 x ICCONS CPS24300SS M24 x 300mm Stainless Steel 316 (A4) Chisel Point Studs were installed using approximately 160 units of ICCONS BIS-PE Pure Epoxy GEN3 Injection Adhesive.

The 316 (A4) stainless steel studs were selected to provide long-term durability in the corrosive coastal environment, while the BIS-PE GEN3 adhesive anchoring system provided the high-load performance required for the application.


Installation Process

The installation involved rotary hammer drilling 28mm diameter holes into the existing concrete.

Each M24 x 300mm Stainless Steel Chisel Point Studs was installed with an embedment depth of 250mm using ICCONS BIS-PE Pure Epoxy GEN3 Injection Adhesive.

ICCONS supported the project by providing:

  • Product specification and technical guidance
  • Installation training for the project team
  • On-site assistance during installation
  • Proof load testing of the installed anchors
  • Support to address any installation issues as work progressed

The anchors were tested on site using the ICCONS PT-60 TestPRO Digital Pull Tester, providing confirmation that the installation met the required proof load criteria.
