One of Melbourne’s most recognisable sites in St Kilda Pier is currently undergoing one of the state’s biggest ever pier upgrades with the $53 million redevelopment well underway. The huge investment will include a new curved pier with a wider and more accessible walkway, tiered seating, better access to the bay, clear views of the iconic city skyline and an additional 140 metre protected habitat for the famous St Kilda penguin colony. This project aims to enhance the overall visitor experience and ensure the longevity of the pier for future generations.

ICCONS has played crucial role in the project with the introduction of the Celo Smart Nylon Strut Clamp Fixing system to the sub-contractor  "Kennedys Group”, who were appointed to undertake the installation of the building services pipework to the 450m long concrete pier deck structure.

As a viable alternative to choosing highly expensive stainless-steel clamping systems to fasten the polypropylene pipes to the concrete deck, the Celo Smart Nylon Clamp fixing system was selected for its corrosion resistance benefits and very fast speed of installation.

The Fiberglass strut is 64% lighter than steel, is easily handled and cut on site, is corrosion resistant as well as having electrical and thermal resistance benefits.

The Celo Smart Nylon clamps were then twist-rotated and locked into the strut, and the service pipework aligned into the Smart clamps which were then pulled through into situ before being pushed and click locked by hand firmly clamping the pipe into place. No tooling is needed, and no fiddly nuts and bolts are required to secure the pipework, this simplicity ensured major labor savings for the Kennedys Group.

The use of Celo Smart Strut Clamps has proven to be the ideal solution for any application where high corrosion resistance is required. It importantly enabled the delivery schedule on time for these essential services to the pier kiosk, marina and penguin viewing areas as well as securing the saltwater feed in pipes for the land-based St Kilda Sea Baths.

The St Kilda Pier Redevelopment project is a substantial undertaking aimed at revitalizing the iconic St Kilda Pier. The project is progressing towards its completion in 2024 and upon completion, the redeveloped St Kilda Pier will offer enhanced amenities, improved infrastructure, and an enriched experience for visitors, ensuring its place as a significant landmark in Melbourne's cultural and recreational landscape.
