Pier 31 Upgrades & Strengthening: N16-N24 Deformed Reinforcing Bar, installed with ICCONS Extreme Strength Pure Epoxy Chemselect Adhesive Anchor (BIS-PE585)

This was a project that was a part of the Melbourne Ports Initiative. Throughout the Port Melbourne and freight receiving docks there are dilapidated and bygone areas that are still within daily use. Fitzgerald Construction was the appointed contractor to undertake the reinstatement works of the Pier 31 of Port Melbourne. The shipping dock is used for many forms of raw inward and outward freight (such as cement).
Application Details: Extreme Strength Epoxy for a Demanding Environment
As a part of Melbourne Ports scope of works, there is to be an additional plant designed to extract vessels content commissioned to the wharf (Pier 31). This meant the strengthening of the existing structure by way of enhancing its load-bearing capacity is crucial.
The substructure of the wharf has been redesigned with thickened transversal concrete beams. These were to be formed up and poured in situ. Part of the internal reinforcements of these beams, engineering specified for N16 & N24 dowels installed into the existing superstructure to be used as a part of the reinforcement cage design. The bars and chemical anchoring were combined required to achieve a nominal load of 65.0kN in direct-acting tensile loads.

- The ICCONS on-site team assisted with initial site testing and product training.
- ICCONS Extreme Strength Chemselect Pure Epoxy (BIS-PE585) was the perfect chemical adhesive for the job.
- In conjunction with site testing, the ICCONS on-site team also trained the installers in the correct use of our injection adhesive systems. This was something that Fitzgerald Constructions had requested in order to future proof their operations to have at least two certified operators.
