ICCONS BIS-PE Pure Epoxy used for threaded rod installation in one of Australia's longest road tunnels
The NorthConnex project was constructed to ease congestion on Pennant Hills Road by joining the M1 Pacific Motorway and the Hills M2 Motorway through the construction of two 9-kilometre tunnels. It is one of Australia’s longest and deepest road tunnels, with a total tunnelling length of 21 kilometres and around 2.25 million cubic meters of soil being removed.
The project saw the installation of 41 kilometres of reflective tunnel panelling. Installation of M20 Stainless Steel Threaded Rod needed to be installed so a steel frame could be fixed to it, which would then allow for the reflective panelling to be mounted on the frame.
ICCONS was one of many suppliers invited to tender through their distribution partners, in this case, United Fasteners. As part of the process, on-site load testing was conducted by ICCONS NSW technical team with the support of the National Engineering Team and United Fasteners. Three brands had their product tested, but ICCONS BIS-PE was selected due to its premium performance.
On-Site installation training was also provided to the team of installers from the builder/designer of the project, Lend Lease Bouygues, to ensure correct installation and maximised productivity throughout the project. 1400ml cartridges of BIS-PE, as well as pneumatic caulking guns, were specifically sourced to increase ease of install, increase productivity and decrease wastage.
Throughout the life of the project, ICCONS and United Fasteners maintained a high level of support, on-site technical advice and continual service to ensure the installation of the tunnel panels was achieved as smoothly as possible.
A total of 1,295 specifically designed 1400ml tubes of ICCONS BIS-PE and 5,672 tubes of ICCONS BIS-PE585 were supplied for the project.
